Child and Adolescent Services

Treatment of Child and Adolescent Behavioral and Emotional Disorders

Help for today, Hope for tomorrow

A Better Life Lies Within Your Reach

Our  children and adolescent services are specifically designed for kids ages 17 and under,  who are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems that interfere with daily life, physical health, family and/or school.

Children and adolescents who would benefit from the inpatient program face challenges such as attention deficit disorder, impulse control disorder, depression, behavioral and thought disorders, bipolar and mixed mood disorders, and post- traumatic stress disorder.
These problems may be expressed in a variety of ways, such as impulsive or defiant behaviors, inability to concentrate, extreme or prolonged mood swings, or physical aggression towards self or others.

River Point Behavioral Health gives every child the opportunity to reach his or her maximum potential in an environment that fosters success.

Treatment Overview
Inpatient care is provided for children and adolescents who are in need of 24-hour hospitalization. This program is for those children and adolescents who need structure and intensive care. The program encourages active participation by every member of the family.
River Point Behavioral Health performs a thorough mental health assessment and develops an individual plan for each child and adolescent. The treatment team assesses the needs of the individual and provides a supportive, respectful environment that encourages and reinforces positive behaviors. The daily activities of all services are designed to increase problem solving and communication skills while enhancing self-esteem.

The types of therapeutic approaches that lay the foundation for the child/adolescent clinical program include cognitive behavioral, family systems, trauma informed care and dialectical behavioral therapy. Treatment is based on an individualized treatment plan which is developed with the child/adolescent and guardian.
The goals of the program are reinforced through the following modalities:

  • Process Groups
  • Psychoeducation Groups
  • Individual and Family Therapy
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Chemical Dependency Groups
  • Anger & Behavioral Management
  • Coping and Emotional Regulation
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Medication Management & Education
  • Aftercare & Safety Planning Development

Treatment Team Approach
The treatment team involved in each child’s care is comprised of psychiatrists, nurses, therapists and mental health technicians. Upon admission, the child will receive a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and daily physician visits. The team’s goal is to provide a structured, nurturing and therapeutic environment to all patients.

The treatment team explores ways to prevent future crises while working with parents and children to communicate effectively. We teach the positive reinforcement approach so parents may continue these supportive and effective methods at home.
